I wouldn't exactly call 1999 a bust more like 1998-1999 was a bust with a promise of a blockbuster Xmas snow event which never even came close to fruition. All we got that winterw as moderate cold it got down to around 10F in Silverton. 1999-2000 we had a 2 inch snow event that caused school to close in January of 2000. NWS Now Data Salem Oregon has data on it though Silverton had a bit more. I think Salem only had a 2 hour delay and it was mostly the south and west hills of Salem that got anything good out of it.

You should've been there in the 90s. There was a LOT more shrubbery to the point you could NOT see the gift shop or any other facilities until you were upon them and you couldn't really tell where the heck you were in the park at any given point unless you were good at mental mapping. I thought things were farther apart then they actually are as in the 2000s the fire marshal ordered a bunch of crap cleared out unfortunately ruining that feeling though in this case I think it might have helped saved the park last September which is what they were worried about way back then.

This is the most El Nino La Ninia I've EVER seen! Do you think this will be 1982/83? Was that a good mountain snowpack year with all those storms or too warm? What was the atmospheric driver behind all that BS?

That'll be nice! Bend and Redmond can have far different weather despite being so close together! Which airport do you think is busier? Redmond or Aurora? Aurora a few years ago had gain a full time ATC crew due to how busy they have gotten without having one. Does Redmond have one?

With low ice and lack of northerly air it's kinda hard to have an Artic outbreak without a 'trigger' to produce it. It's like having a very powerful gun with powerful bullets but missing the firing pin which you have to know how to DIY.

Is this the same for record lows in the summer time for the WV of Oregon? A lot of our record lows are in the low to mid 30s and I can't imagine the setup that would cause that!!

But we've had way less 'particles' to be trapped since then though too which adds to it. I'm not talking about a 'little' fog here and there which can happen on any given winter I'm talking weeks of inversion if it happened during the end of the Little Ice Age frequently or no.

It melted by daylight pretty fast. I remember being disappointed by it. Couldn't play in it or nothing! Coming from the mountains of California I thought the school closure was dumb. A 2 hour late start would've been wise. 2000-2001 was an awful nightmare except the brief cold that November. A week of nights in the mid 20s.

Going around town at least 40 percent of the trees still have quite a bit of leaves on them and they are still in their mid October stage.

What I'm mentioning is if we had less fog back then would that make colder nights in exchange? Fog generally keeps minimums up but high temps down.

So in the 1880s/1900s do you suppose these fogs were pretty frequent during ridgey episodes in the winter or if not would that play a role in temperature departures?
