  1. The warm, dry outflow allowed some time for the kids to ride bikes and explore the creek beside our place
  2. Here in the Fraser Valley we woke up to a stiff outflow that’s still blowing. That’s likely the source of the N wind. Beautiful here in Mission: sunny, 64F with a dewpoint of 19F with the outflow.
  3. Had some serious torching that didn’t have ensemble support in the models. The kids sure found it exciting.
  4. Three important rules, especially when explicitly stating or indirectly insinuating climate change: 1. Context; 2. Context; 3. Context. “Recorded History” in this case is 1970. Granted there weren’t 5.5 million people in this province in the Roman and Medieval Warm Periods, but I doubt it’s “record setting” for this interglacial period, especially with those two comparatively recent warm periods.
  5. You got that right. Pics from Bryce Canyon on our honeymoon in 2011. Haven’t been to Arches or near Moab, however, since 1990 when I was a kid with a mullet.
  6. Pareto principle/distribution. About 20% of the people here make 80% of the comments. Same holds true for goals scored in the NHL/season, income, proportion of books authored, etc. This likely applies more so than a normal (bell curve) distribution.
  7. Was at the office yesterday (Saturday) putting in overtime dealing with ruinous, hellish new rules regarding bare trusts. Took the kids to the park after church today.
  8. And typical spring weather has returned to Calgary, Alberta: multiple days of wind-driven snow and well below freezing.
  9. It was a beaut, wasn’t it? As I was outside, the thought occurred to me that yesterday and today would feel like Yellowknife in the summer: a gentle warmth without the sun feeling like one is standing under a heat lamp. Then again, the mosquitos and horse flies would be a force to be reckoned with.
  10. It’ll be good to have warm anomalies. Finally got the kids’ passports last August. We crossed the border on a sunny Saturday in September and hiked around Baker area. All made possible by what makes some squirm. Warm anomalies = outdoor adventures with the kiddos = memories. One would think warm anomalies only means drought & forest fires. Looking forward to Deception Pass with them and some adventures at the Evergreen Speedway.
  11. It sure is a tragedy. I get to play road hockey with my kids, and they can decorate the townhouse complex roadway with sidewalk chalk with their neighbourhood friends. And we plan on a hike with them Sunday afternoon, It’s horrible. Best it be cold and wet so they can get back in the house.
  12. In April 2000 in southern BC, we had snow to the valley floor of the Okanagan valley on April 14. Some regions saw a skiff, some had ~4”. Days prior was t-shirt weather. Arctic boundary slid about 100 miles south of the forecast. It was a novelty, but it was good to resume the sweet smells of spring after that surprise event.
  13. Well, here at 49.0594N and 122.3045W even with the time changes, sunrise peaks at 5:03am in June and sets by 4:16pm in early December. You get used to it. I really don’t care what’s chosen as the new standard time.
  14. Nah, a 3-2 lead produces HISTORIC comebacks. I just get a VIBE that a 3-2 lead going into the 3rd that the leading team will lose resulting in a win burger for the other team. If the Euro op is somewhat correct: warm & dry followed by cool & dry. Pleasant March variability.
