  1. Please send them east after they are done with you haha! Stormy night and days ahead for most of the Midwest, Tis the season!
  2. Wow it’s amazing how the models are picking up on another “dry slot” over east central Nebraska. The models must be finally catching on that it’s been really difficult lately to get decent rainfall or storms around here anymore haha… I threw those models showing 2-4 inches here this weekend out a couple days ago.
  3. Having to water my yard every other day to keep it green during the month of April is crazy in this part of the country, however this is now the third spring in a row we have missed out on at least normal moisture… I am with you, we need a complete pattern change to bust this drought and I am not counting on it changing anytime soon.
  4. Fingers crossed this pans out, we are least getting some moisture this week here in Eastern Nebraska - however it hasn’t been enough to put any type of dent in this lingering drought. So far this week I am still under a half inch rain between two systems that were forecast to drop double or triple that amount. Would be nice to close out April and start of May with some consistent moisture to turn things around.
  5. Looks like you will finish up pretty well after all, much better than the paltry 0.20” storm total in my rain gauge. What will it take to get a semi-decent thunderstorm or rainfall event here!?!
  6. I knew it was a bad sign when last night’s convection struggled to get going… the persistent drought locally seems to push away any decent moisture flow and makes any type of convection more spotty than usual. I was hoping the southeast winds yesterday and last night would bring in plenty of moisture for this storm system, however it got pushed north and west again.
  7. Looking like yet another let down here in the Omaha metro. We have seen a few very brief downpours and some rumbles of thunder, however it’s been a massive disappointment moisture-wise… so far less than a tenth of an inch of rain. Hopefully we can get some better organized storm development later this morning and later today, however I am not going to hold my breath.
  8. Tomorrow morning/ early afternoon could be interesting here in Eastern Nebraska... possible upgrade to enhanced risk on the table for tomorrow now as well per the NWS in Omaha/Valley. Sounds like all modes of severe weather are on the table too, nighttime or early morning tornadoes are possible which is concerning. This looks to be our first really good shot at getting widespread severe weather in quite a while... we desperately need the rain!
  9. We ended up in a perfect spot at a winery southwest of St. Genevieve, MO… got a completely clear view of totality. What an amazing celestial event and well worth the drive and the hours stuck in traffic.
  10. Good luck to you as well, we are in St Louis right now and will be dropping about 90 minutes south between St Genevieve and Cape Girardeau, MO. Forecast so far looks decent, maybe just some scattered high clouds to deal with.
  11. Finally getting some rainfall here in Omaha… it’s been a very windy day here with several wildfires breaking out along the Missouri River near the airport… really getting tired of seeing this kind of stuff around here. https://x.com/dkoellerwx/status/1776736909361885611
  12. Right now we are targeting somewhere near St. Genevieve, MO (staying in St Louis on Sunday night). This will get us in the path of totality while giving us decent road options to pivot south or east. So far the forecast is looking better for viewing the eclipse in Missouri.
  13. Nothing but drizzle and light showers here so far, just enough to wet the pavement… it looks like we are going to get stuck right between the two decent precipitation areas from this system, again.
  14. At this point we just need to be thankful for the precipitation, whatever form it comes in. Hopefully we can all break this awful 2 years plus drought pattern in the plains… every little bit helps.
  15. So far sitting at 0.80” of very beneficial rainfall here in West Omaha (24 hour rainfall total). Hoping to get closer to that elusive 1” mark today for this system. Nice to see everything finally greening up around here thanks to some of the recent moisture. This soaking rain should really help accelerate things later in the week when it finally warms back up.
  16. A bit of a surprise snow this morning in Omaha… probably picked up an inch or two of snow here, nothing at all like what our friends out west are getting this morning however it’s nice to see at least some moisture here. Roads are mostly wet here, however the grass and rooftops are mostly covered.
  17. 0.11" since January 18th here... I am really hoping Nebraska and Iowa can get manage to get some appreciable moisture tomorrow/ tomorrow night.
  18. Any chance of challenging the all-time record high for February in Chicago? Still can’t believe we hit 80 here in Eastern Nebraska today, something I never imagined I would experience here this time of year. February heat wave for the Midwest.
  19. All-time February record high of 80 here today in Omaha… feels like May outside, historic warmth for February.
  20. Midwest weather in a nutshell, LOL! Looking like we go from 80 degree weather here today to cold, wind, and maybe some snow tomorrow night… let the weather roller coaster ride called Spring commence.
  21. Pulling it away from Eastern Nebraska again I see haha… our rain chances and forecasted amounts have dropped quite a bit over the last 24 hours. Sounds kinda familiar, however I am not going to complain about missing out on rain in early February.
  22. I helped one of my top customers/ distributors out with a booth at the Northeast Nebraska Ag Expo in Norfolk, NE yesterday and today. I made the decision to make the drive back to Omaha after the show ended, leaving Norfolk around 3:00pm when the heaviest snow was just ending there. The drive south down Highway 81 was terrifying at times, numerous white outs, and several vehicles stuck on the side of the road and a couple jack-knifed trucks (I even received a Public Emergency Alert for no travel advised on east to west Highway 91 due to that massive pileup, something I have never seen before). I don't know how I made it south to Columbus and ultimately east on Highway 30, and then to Highway 275 to get back to Omaha without any major issues, however it was one of the worst drives I have ever experienced (and I travel quite a bit across Nebraska and Iowa for work). A few co-workers of mine that were lagging behind a bit pulled off Highway 81 in Platte Center for 4-5 hours where they waited out the white out conditions for a bit. So glad we all made it home safely... even though a typical 2-hour drive turned out to be a 4+ hour white knuckle ride home.
  23. Just heard a “frost quake” in my neighborhood as the temp has settled to -15. Was a loud boom outside, sounded like someone hit the outside of our house… neighbors heard the same thing. Really weird phenomena.
  24. Much different here in East Central Nebraska… models were finally dead on with the 8-10” that fell here last night and today. Still getting some light snow now, or maybe it’s just blowing snow… I have no idea.
  25. Not sure why the NWS here in Omaha dragged their feet not issuing a Blizzard Warning for our CWA (conditions are warranting this too right now with less than 1/4 mile visibility at Eppley). The Nebraska State Patrol is now advising people to stay home due to whiteout conditions and treacherous road conditions, even in the city of Omaha. I-80 has been closed in a few spots in the city due to accidents and slide offs. A Blizzard Warning would have likely kept more businesses closed and people home... kind of ridiculous that they dropped the ball when DMX upgraded last night (especially as our snow amounts have increased and snow is still falling).
