  1. I am guessing that is a Liquidambar tree, or some type of sycamore. Given the cold weather tonight and the cold weather forecast for much of this week, I'm sure that tree is going to lose almost all of its leaves before long. Of course, the oleanders in the foreground (I THINK they are oleanders) and the split leaf philodendron by the gate are evergreen, so they won't be losing their leaves.
  2. I received 0.36" here in Orange from this week's storm.
  3. The air quality was really good today compared to last week when it was downright hazy and smoggy.
  4. Well, it is not a marine layer. It is the aftermath of a cold front that passed through.
  5. I hope we get rid of this terrible air quality that we have had over the past several days. It has been feeling like I am in Bakersfield or some other nearby area of the San Joaquin Valley that is infamous for this type of air quality.
  6. Getting a marine layer pattern is a bit odd for this time of year.
  7. It could, but I am willing to bet that it will either rain before or after the parade if it rains at all during that time frame. This coming Saturday has a much better chance at getting some rain.
  8. If something big happens in January, I hope it brings active weather in terms of rain and snow to the entire West Coast, as it has been on the dry side here in CA for an El Nino year. I am hoping for some decent snow in the Sierra, too, as well as the Cascades!
  9. That is because Monday is New Years' Day with all the usual college bowl games and college playoff games such as the Rose Bowl. If New Years' Day weren't on Monday, we would have had one more regular season Monday Night Football game. The last week of the NFL season doesn't have a MNF game, as everything ends on Sunday. I was going to say that the Wild Card and other playoff games are always on the weekend, both on Saturday and Sunday, but I just remembered that one of the Wild Card games was on a Monday last year, which is a new thing.
  10. I use Edge with Disqus and I haven't had much trouble with anything, except when there is an occasional glitch with Disqus. I have never used the DuckDuckGo browser, as I don't even have it installed on my computer.
  11. Weather West, a blog dedicated to California weather and climate has quite a following, and the people are from all over the state as well, including the mountain areas like the Sierra. In terms of activity it is the complete opposite of this thread.
  12. That certainly looks Nino-ish, as well as Day 7 and 8 on the latest Euro Op run.
  13. Most CA weather enthusiasts are over on Weather West, including me, which I think is one of the reasons it is so dead on this forum. I post here on occasion, but I do most of my posting on WW. Or else, people don't know that this subforum exists on here, which is a possibility.
  14. I doubt that, as he hasn't posted anything I am aware of that is out of line with forum rules. He has been posting on Weather West, though.
  15. I agree with you. This fall is reminding me of the fall of 2020 (a full blown east-based La Nina year) with the incessant Santa Ana wind pattern we have been stuck in for much of the time since the end of October.
  16. It seems that that D**n cutoff low doesn't want to move onshore! It is as if there is no oomph in the jet, unless the models are just not seeing something.
  17. I will say one thing about this fall so far, is that it is really reminding me of the fall of 2020 when we had an endless series of Santa Ana wind events. The main difference is that we haven't had much in the way of fires this season until today, when there were at least two fires that broke out, one in Santa Paula and the other one somewhere in the Chino Hills above Brea. In other words, this has felt like an east based classic La Nina all the way since the beginning of October, only that it has been warmer. I am hoping the pattern changes showing up in the long range verify and that we get some decent storms soon!
  18. This has been quite a boring fall so far, not only for the intermountain west region, but for much of CA and the SW as well. I'm hoping that changes as we get closer to the Holidays!
  19. I hope you get to experience some of the type of weather you really enjoy during this season, and that we down in CA get beneficial rain and snow at the same time. The weather here in Socal has really been a dud for an El Nino fall since the beginning of October, despite getting susbstantial rain from Tropical Storm Hilary back in August. August has been the highlight of this season so far down here.
  20. Boy it sure is! I wasn't expecting it to be nearly this dry especially going later into November to December.
  21. How soon do you think it will change, so CA and the SW starts getting in on the action?
  22. Yes it was a pathetic storm! It fizzled out before it got down here to Orange and didn't deliver a drop of rain!
  23. Do you mean the one that looks as if the bulk of the continental U.S. is under a mega ridge with only the Gulf Coast and the far PNW getting wet in December?
  24. But, when is California going to begin feeling the effects of this "strong" El Niño? It has been as dry as a La Niña in Socal so far since the beginning of October.
