We are now 2/3 way thru June 2024 the mean at Grand Rapids so far this month is 70.4 that is a departure from average of +2.8 the highest so far this month and year is 94. So far there have been 3 days of 90 or better and that is the average for June. There have been 3 more days of 87 or better and the average is 6 so we are now at average for days of 87 or better. The low for the month so far has been 45. There has been official 1.13” of rain fall here in MBY there has been much less rainfall. Heat wave recap. This has been a rather hot warm spell for mid-June. The last 6 days have had highs of 88, 94, 90, 93, 89, and 89. That is moderately impressive but more so has been the overnight lows that have been 68, 76, 76, 71, 68 and so far today 71. This is very warm for mid June and here in our area very warm for any time. Today will be the last day of this warm/hot spell. We could see some heavy storms later today. Here in MBY there has not been much rain this month while the official rainfall total at GRR so far this month is at 1.13” I have only had 0.62” here. The official H/L yesterday at Grand Rapids was 89/68 there was no rainfall and the sun was out 60% of the time. For today the record high of 97 was set in 1894 and 1923 the coldest high of 56 was set in 1902 the record low of 39 was set in 1992 the warmest low of 73 was set in 1908. The most rainfall of 1.92” fell in 1928. -

The 121F at Lytton BC was pretty obscene. Broke the National all time record for Canada by 8F. -

I will never forget that heatwave. It was so wildly anomalous. That one beats any heatwave on record in a lot of places that are a lot hotter than here. -

Looks like that N to S gradient is going to continue for a while judging by the graphic that was posted earlier. Pretty interesting feature the last few weeks. -

I remember being in Flossmoor one day 17 years ago and there were a ton of them there. I bet they are out in full force there again. I read a story about people in Chicago shoveling dead cicadas off the sidewalks back in 1990. It's crazy how dense the coverage can be.
