I got to it by thinking "YBP" as "Years Before Present", and k as a thousand, like a karat. Thousand years before present. 5,000-7,000*one thousand = 5-7 million.
Don't get me wrong, I like the guy. And I'd be a massive weenie hypocrite if I called him out on every time he was insecure on the forums. The fact of the matter is, he predicts pattern progressions reasonably well, for weeks out. But his secrets shall die with him so long as he fails to find a way to translate to english.
Look at the amount of positive reacts my post recieved, then look inwards a little bit. I think you're missing the intended subtext. I got the unit, by the way. Not after a few unnecessary moments of thought.
You can skip the crazy units and the jargon and the reaching into branches of science you understand less. Judging by the way @the_convergence_zone talks I really think he knows more about that branch of climate science than you do. And he has a degree, no? I really appreciated how he actually described what was going on in his own terms, instead of throwing a bunch of crap around.
It's pretty clear you know a lot. More than me, probably by far. I don't get why you have this Stampede Pass-sized chip on your shoulder.
