  1. Yeah, something is brewing alright, a good model riding season...all the way through March
  2. Anyone know what happened to that user who used to post here, username was Richard? He would make posts that were incredibly difficult (at least for me) to decode and understand. Asking simply because most of what I remember him saying actually came to fruition. Here's to a frosty Halloween
  3. This place never ceases to entertain me. Especially going into fall-winter. The real show begins at the end of February, particularly when winter didn't deliver the goods. Thank God March holds the wildcard
  4. Guess we won't know what's going to happen until it's happening. Just like every other fall/winter around here, the dynamics are insanely difficult to predict/forecast.
  5. Isn't that the story of every winter in the pnw since 2008? We're always on the cusp of some cold pattern of biblical proportions and suddenly climo takes over and its back to reality, try again next winter.
  6. You changed your avatar.... Did your sense of intellectual sarcasm also go away? I hope not. My random lurks and logins here are typically motivated by my curiosity as to what comical passive sarcastic remarks Deweydog has been posting. It's large part of the camaraderie that appears to hold this forum together.
  7. We still exchange emails with the people who bought our house in Fruitland (good samaritan type of thing for questions they might have about quirks with the place, since it's light years away from civilization) and they recently emailed asking if it's normal for large amounts of snowfall followed by a melt off. I replied telling them that even though this is quite abnormally high temps for this time of year, they haven't even scratched the surface of winter over there yet. I added that January - February into early March is typically when old man winter exhales his breath. I suggested they count their blessings because every winter we lived there, around this time, there was between 1-2 feet of snowpack in the front yard and it's not uncommon for there to be nearly 4 feet of measurable snow before melt off. They have a 50 hp tractor with a plow attachment so they should be good to go. Having grown up and lived the majority of my life in the south puget sound of western Washington I can honestly say that dealing with mass amounts of snowfall every winter is a giant PITA. I prefer the occasional snow storm that graces western Washington with it's presence and then melts off just as fast.
  8. That is awesome! KOMO has been a staple of Seattle news since I can remember. Parents always tuned in every morning while I waited for the school bus.
  9. It's not easy. Carrying two mortgages while my wife and I both trade our time for our salary is a huge risk. One mistake and it could be ripped out from under us. However her and I both grew up in poverty and we are determined to never ever live like that. In less than 5 years one home will be paid for. Real estate really is the way to go.
  10. From what I understand it's mainly younger people from all over the country come to visit thier elderly family members who are either retired and living in Phoenix or snowbirds who come down during the summer.
  11. Currently in Medford Oregon at the hotel....on my way to Phoenix for Xmas vacation. It's 50 degrees and overcast. Can't wait to get down to Burbank, CA and meet up with friends and have some beers. Phoenix real estate market is booming. Owning a home in Western Washington and Phoenix is the way to go! Air BnB the AZ home during summer and use it for vacations in the winter.
  12. Are you saying there's a chance, albeit minimal, that we may see a windstorm comparable to the Hanukkah Eve storm??
  13. I'd love to live to see a windstorm comparable to the Columbus day storm of 62' https://climate.washington.edu/stormking/October1962.html

  15. If this verifies, could you possibly take videos and tons of photos? This could be truly epic.
  16. But will the swamp muster enough white stuff for you to make a snowperson? That is the million dollar question.
  17. I'll never forget the first winter in our Eastern Washington house. First snow was 4 days before Thanksgiving. I had not raked the leaves yet. Woke up to 6" or so of snow. Was super stoked and excited. Kids and I rode the 4x4 atv all day with the sled in tow. Temp never rose above 25 degrees for weeks on end despite clear blue sunny skies, It was awesome! But then another snowstorm came and another and another. By the time mid March had rolled around, the temp managed to creep into the upper 30s for daytime highs. The snowpack was beginning to melt away. I had forgotten about the leaves I so lazily failed to rake up and burn. Once the snowpack melted down far enough to where blotchy patches of hibernated grass were showing, I seen the leaves. There they were, waiting to be raked up and burned. It was then I realized that my laziness was my undoing. Never again will I procrastinate on winter yard work preparations....
  18. I've been all over Montana during summer as well as winter. I can say that I feel like its the most beautiful place I've ever been to during summer. Winter on the other hand... I like snow and cold, but a break from it every now and then is also nice. My wife and I are aiming to live the snowbird life by age 40. Little place somewhere near Kalispell during summer, and then back to Phoenix during winter. Nothing beats Phoenix winter weather.
  19. Don't worry, you'll get more than you bargained for in the coming years...
