Just had a tree limb come down and take out our backyard light strings, lots of ice falling from the trees too. Showing 32.2 degrees. -

earthandturf replied to Tom's topic in East of the Rockies
Some tree limbs and branches snapping in the woods across the street from me and the power went out for about 5 minutes. Quite a bit of ice on the power lines and trees with ice falling from the trees during wind gusts. Currently 31.5 degrees, temp has been bouncing between 31.1 and 31.9 since 6:00 a.m. -

The cattle look like they're starving. -
About 2.5"

-16.3 on my home station this morning, warmed up to -12 already!

Disappointing totals so far and it doesn't appear that there will be much more. On the plus side, it looks like plowing should be easy tonight.

We need some rain. The ground is like concrete and the grass is turning to straw. -

Bring on the 45 degree dew points! I have a landscaping business and it was a real struggle getting through this past week. Current heat (misery) index is 104 as I glance at my weather station. Dew point at 78! -

More snow to plow please. -
I've got 3.5" in Crystal Lake, just back from plowing. The snow was very light, easy to plow and shovel.

I have a landscaping business and plow during the winter. Snow is a necessity for me. I don't need this kind of cold though, no one does. -

I was a high school senior that year. We actually built an igloo big enough to fit four people with a wood burning stove inside, memorable times indeed. -
I'll take it. NAM has nailed the last two storms by us.

Which model came the closest with this last storm? -
Isn't the forecast for December dry and warmer than normal in the Midwest?
-
Lt snow here in Crystal Lake, even though radar returns look impressive...
-
The Weather Channel forecast for Crystal Lake is: 4:00 lt snow 5:00 cloudy 6:00 blizzard 7:00 thru 2:00 am blizzard I don't think I've ever seen a forecast like that around here.
-
Moderate snow in Crystal Lake now, after a couple of hours of sleet/snow mix. The streets are slushy, even after being plowed and salted.
-
Thought I'd be leaving to plow around 8:00, but the back edge is still at Rockford and there appears to be a couple bands of heavier snow blossoming behind it. Hmmm.
