  1. Woah exciting! I'm looking forward to my two weeks of winter in February! I can't wait!
  2. This forecast is crazy for snowboarding in Wisconsin, good chance a lot of hills shut down after the rain on Monday night and they won't have enough cold to really fix things for a while, the lows weds and thrus are good enough for some snowmaking, but it's not enough time to make a lot. Snowboarding and skiing is going to get real ugly down here, even if they manage to stay open. I'd be worried but everything and everyone blew the "monster blizzard!!!!" we were supposed to get before Christmas so my confidence in models is at an all time low right now. Pretty sad to see, I feel like we haven't had a proper Winter like 5+ years. And even if the first two weeks of Jan are lost, that's still a quarter of Winter for most of us up here. It's time for a winter house up north, lol.
  3. What's going on with meteorology lately? Wunderground thinks it's more important to tell me about going out on lake Michigan and having the lake mist freeze and capsize my boat (which I don't have and I assume 99.99% of people don't have boats and go out on Michigan in this weather than the wind chill warning about 10 minutes until frostbite or the winter storm). Accuweather held on to 10-15in of snow for me until a day before until they lowered it to 6-10 and finally ended more like 4-8, which we barely got 4in here. I know it's their job to hype stuff up and get ratings and hits but mainstream meteorologists did an astronomically bad job. We're finally going to have a white Christmas here, but this forecast was absurd. People planned their lives around 10-15 inches of snow around here and some of them got less than 2in out of this.
  4. Am I missing something or is this basically just cold and a few inches of snow for southern Wisconsin. Looks like all the models I've seen on tropicaltidbits dropped totals massively for me in the last day.
  5. Hope this can stay south enough to hammer Wausau. Would be nice to get a trip in to Cascade.
  6. I feel like it's been a long time since Chicago had a chance at a white Christmas.
  7. December like 2022 for southern Wisconsin? YES PLEASE!
  8. The climate models? Those things always lean towards warm. Trust MJO and all that other stuff more. This forum is cold biased and climate predictions are warm biased, you just have to make your own conclusions and not trust anything blindly. Not to mention it's weather, how often are meteorologists right? And who can blame them when people expect them to predict the future with 100% accuracy?
  9. Snow guns on ski hills have been ripping, with this they can make a ton of snow.
  10. I sure hope not, there was just a major "screw you" line from you to me last year, snow to the north,, snow to the south, none for me and you. Nothing like watching places with no snowmobile trails or ski resorts get tons of snow while your snowmobile sits parked because you're not getting anything.
  11. Wow WTF that's like last Winter when anyone near the WI/IL border got completely screwed. NO THANKS.
  12. ETA for Alpine Valley opening, November 18th, one of the earliest starts to the season. Some good looking, cold nights in the accuweather extended forecast. Here's hoping, a couple nights in the teens is enough to make some serious snow. Looks like I might get away with a little over a week between jet ski and snowboard season this year. I noticed it seems like the less time between my hobbies, the better winter is. Here's hoping, I'm so ready.
  13. Time for me to live up to my username. People in charge of AV say they are aiming for a mid november opening, and here's the weekly. This is so weird, usually when I buy a new snowboard or something I completely Murphy's Law the winter and it looks like things might be ok.
  14. It's a rare and extreme meteorological condition where the hail pieces fall down in the shape of gorillas. Instead of being roundish balls they have distinct, strong extremities, as well as an ape-like head structure. Truly a marvel of weather phenomenon. Maybe if you are lucky you can catch a gorilla hail stone before the appendages melt, I suggest keeping it in the freezer to preserve it and most of them melt on the way down from the stratosphere. Definitely very cool!
  15. Wow thanks, I've been looking for something that shows how bad this has been.
  16. One of the biggest snowfalls of the season, while I'm waiting to get jet skis, kayak, and sailboat ready, can't snowmobile, can't snowboard, what a waste. This winter was so cruel, give me 60s and rain in the end of February to make the snow suck at ski hills, then give me snow when it's useless to me. Pretty close analog, I hope 22-23 isn't like 03-04 because that winter was garbage too. I have about 3.5 inches on my deck right now and it's still coming down. I have half an idea to take my crappy snowboard and find a sledding hill lol.
  17. This is gonna be a long and crappy spring, I can feel it.
  18. I told you guys, the models always have one big last winter storm on their maps to get your hopes up and it always craps out. It's reliable and it's given, and it reliably marks the end of winter, once you get your big winter storm on the models that never materializes. At least it's going to be 70 Tuesday then some good rain here, the lake will be cleared and ready for me to use my jet skis and canoe. Even though the weather sucked I had an awesome snowboard season so I'm content. Hopefully next year I get more than 4 weeks of actual winter conditions for snowboarding.
  19. Spring snow is usually over-done on models, by a lot. GFS and CMC were showing 6-10 for Cascade Mountain for a week and it ended up a 1-3 event. I am ready for spring after this, all my ski resorts except for Granite Peak (3 hours away) will be closed, lakes/revers are all thawed so no snowmobile. If it does happen it's just a big stat-padder that I can't enjoy that'll be gone in a couple days.
  20. It looks like the heat is over performing, my snow for Cascade is turning into rain. There is supposed to be a big Luau party there tomorrow with a treasure hunt on the whole mountain, raffle, give away, cook out, live music, etc. I hope they can stay open for it, it's the last day of the year to really go.
  21. This is shaping up to be a nice spring transition from winter to summer activities. Friday and Saturday I was snowboarding in nice cold snow in the 20s, then I had a couple days of spring riding. Just a couple trips to Cascade left and the big party Saturday, then warm and rain to get the lake in good shape. I hate when it gets warm and nasty in mid/late february, ruins all the snow stuff, then proceeds to be cold and snowy after ski hills close.
  22. I have a really stupid question I should have asked a while ago, but in the models, when it says 18z, that means 6pm Zulu time, right? Which is 5 hours ahead of US Central time, right? Also going to be interesting how this affects ski resorts, they usually groom in the morning, but this is enough to make some of them have to groom in the dark instead of daylight.
  23. Cascade Mountain is right between the 10.0 and 11.7, please be true I'll get a hotel room there Sat night for that, haha.
  24. Ski/snowboard season coming to a close, spent most of yesterday sweating in nothing more than regular bottoms and a hoodie. Not going to lie it was pretty enjoyable.
  25. The worst part of this winter living in NE or WI is how it seemed like everything missed us. Chicago snowfall totals Chicago is close to normal, 60 miles north and you're half of normal. Just north of Southern Wisconsin in Green Bay I'd love to see something like this for NE, because clearly we were both in a total screw zone.
