August 2026 Observations and Discussions
Models did a terrible job forecasting the overnight storms. The CAMs had a big MCS rolling through Siouxland into sw Minnesota and nw Iowa, but none of that happened. Storms never blew up in South Dakota. Even far northern Iowa is getting nothing, despite models showing that area (Mason City, et al) getting hit early this morning. Storms are currently trying to blow up in central Iowa, but it's unclear how organized they can get before reaching my area.- 1

To a large extent, yes. But nobody will care if it translates to good snows.- 1

August 2026 Observations and Discussions
HRRR is quite ominous for Chicago metro tomorrow. Main threat will be damaging winds, but there may be a localized tornado threat as well especially since it looks like a boundary may be in the vicinity.- 1
