Thought I would let all know. After years of complaining, Ottumwa Iowa is having a true wet year!
It seems that no matter where the system is mby gets something. I have often caught lone pop ups. I have not recorded any extreme long dry spells as were so frequent in the past several years.
Some stats:
Each month April to August I have had normal or above normal rainfall. 3 months i had around 7 plus inches, April, June, August..
I have had over 2.00" on 4 different reporting days 7am to 7am. That is more than previous 5 years combined!
See the pic below confirming that many of the 1 to 3" rains ive recorded have come in 2026!!!
I have 28.35" since april 1st!
I have 31.59" in 2026 so far!
Whats amazing we have had no flooding and no 3" days in 5 yrs!
The gardens and crops really love it! Peaches, pears, sweetcorn, watermelon, field corn, cucumbers, and many other things are the best of my life! Iowa soils are indeed fruitful WHEN IT RAINS!
Summer is nice, but I'm ready for fall. I look forward to our first meaningful stratiform rain. To the comforting smell of petrichor after a long, arid summer. I look forward to crisp mornings and beautiful fall colors.
Too much of any season gets boring in my opinion, so I'm glad to live in a four-season climate that isn't extreme either.
