Looks like the Hi-Res WRF-GFS was predicting it to drop below 1000 m on southern Vancouver Island this morning. Not sure if that actually happened, but it's snowing down to 4,500' at Crystal Mountain currently.
No matter how anyone slices it, this is a pretty impressive trough for mid June for the PNW. The record low 850mb temp for Quillayute for June 15 is -1.4C. Currently the upper level temps are about -0.5C and may drop another degree or so in the next 18 hours. So this will be close to a record for the date. 850mb temperatures below -1C between June 15th and September 22nd have only occurred at Quillayute on three later dates (6/18, 6/24, and 6/25) in the last 60 years.
This will likely end up one of 5 coldest upper level troughs this late in the season since 1966.
Big White is very close to the city, I used to go for drives up there at night, the most interesting part was watching the outdoor temperature drop on my dashboard, I remember driving up one day and watching the pouring rain rapidly turn into snow.
