I'm not a smart man, but ive always heard the fish basically slow their metabolism down extremely almost to hibernation levels and get as deep as possible in that situation. We have had some kills by our cabin about 5 hours north of us. Sometimes the ice and snowcover are so bad it chokes off everything and over half the lake dies off. Its a shame, we have a place near the UP and had a fish kill about 8 years ago, and the shorelines were filled with 20"+ fish of all sorts, seems like the big ones go first. The smell was awful and the amount of birds, racoon and bear around us were unprecedented. That said, we need some D**n moisture. We had a good ice freeze this year, started out promising with snow and then nothing. The lakes dropped 5"+ and if we dont have a really wet spring idk if ill even be able to out the pontoon in. Hoping fir a couple more big snowfall before April and a wet a** year
