First thunderstorms of the season last nite and some loud ones too. Hello Meteorological spring, but I have a feeling we are not done w winter just yet. Next weekend looks crazy around here.
There were a pair of supercells that moved through the Tulsa area last night. One of them went right over me but luckily was in a cycling stage so the tornado had temporarily lifted. I drew my general location and the tornado path for the southern storm. Also at my house I had a small pressure response as the circulation went overhead. You can see the sudden drop and rise in pressure.
I agree with your assessment. It tends to be more hit and miss with cold fronts like last night. A cluster of good storms and heavy rain moved through the Waterloo area, but I did not get a single drop of rain.
Ive learned that here in my area its the warm front that almost always leads to the most rain with these systems. West to east moving cold fronts almost never lead to good rains my part of se Iowa, .25" or less mostly. And low pressures nearby very frenquently are totally a waste usually dry slotted. A sagging front near mo border or warm front stalled or nudging north, particulary the early am hours best bet for rain here. Thats been my observation over all these many recent dry years.
I got .12" with cold front fri night.
1.69" with quasi warm front friday am.
1.81" total one of my wettest 24 in couple yrs.
