April 2026 Observations and Discussion
The Devault DEOS station recorded a high of 90.7 yesterday this is the first 90 degree reading at any County station so far this year. None of the other stations reached 90 but upper 80's were common across the valley locations. Today should be 10 to 12 degrees cooler with highs in the mid to upper 70's. This is still 10+ degrees above normal levels. We chill well below normal by Sunday with highs remaining in the low to mid 50's with shower chances increasing. A freeze remains a possibility by Tuesday morning. -

April 2026 Observations and Discussion
There was another 0.80” of rainfall here in MBY yesterday and that brings the event total in my yard to 3.29” The overnight low here in my yard was 52 and at the current time it is foggy and 52. Once the fog burns off it should be warm today with highs in the mid 70’s there is a chance of more thunderstorms late today that could linger into Saturday then a strong cold front will come through and drop temperatures down with highs only in the 40’s on Sunday and stay cool for Monday lows will also be cold with a hard freeze on Sunday night when lows will drop down into the upper 20’s after that we should see some nice spring weather. KEY MESSAGES DENSE FOG THROUGH THIS MORNING WITH FAIR WEATHER TODAY STRONG, POSSIBLE SEVERE STORMS FRIDAY NIGHT COOLER, BREEZY WEEKEND WITH COOLER AND DRIER WEATHER AHEAD The official H/L yesterday at Grand Rapids was 64/54 there was 0.89” of rainfall the highest wind speed was 23 MPH out of the W. For today the average H/L is 59/38 the record high of 84 was in 1976 the coldest high of 34 was in 2018 the record low of 24 was in 1983 the warmest low of 62 was in 1896. The most rainfall of 2.94” was in 1922 the most snowfall of 1.4” was in 2018 the most snow on the ground was 7” in 1961. Some weather history for April 17th 1922 A family of at least six tornadoes caused death and destruction along parts of a 210 mile path from north of Ogden IL to Allen County OH, killing sixteen persons. A post card, picked up in Madison County IN, was found 124 miles away near Mount Cory OH. (The Weather Channel)Note the record rainfall at Grand Rapids on that day. 1965 The Mississippi River reached a flood crest at Saint Paul MN four feet higher than any previous mark. During the next two weeks record levels were reached along the Mississippi between Saint Paul and Hannibal MO. Flooding caused more than 100 million dollars damage, but timely warnings kept the death toll down to just twelve persons. (David Ludlum) -

2026-27 ENSO: Return of El Nino?
How about 1986? I feel that was more of the pre-nino summer of that event than 87, which was already at or near peak nino. My area 86 was a colder summer than 87. -

April 2026 Weather In The PNW
You're not alone in that sentiment, Tim. Plenty of people here have been talking about how they wish the regular season would go back to normal and that we could have more nice and dry stretches here during the early part of the offseason, even though it's happening anyway in this part of the region. The problem with that is (no shitt) we live in a big region. The PNW (I include all of Oregon, northern Idaho, all of Washington & SW BC in that group) to me kinda feels like...its own distinct state altogether. Now that mother nature has lushened up our foliage, let's go ahead and evaporate everything almost immediately, then turn on the blast furnace by May and have it on til Oct. Maybe throw in a couple solid east wind Cascade mountain waves blowin over the Belknap gap and down the McKenzie. Anybody here had the chance to see the aftermath of what went down back in 2020? Between Walterville and Blue River it's basically like a bomb was detonated. You can see how the spot fires fell into the small towns. I remember large chunks of warm ash falling. I remember my lungs making my RNS hurt. I remember having the worst air quality on the planet for 10 days. I really don't want a Wikipedia article about the utter chaos that would transpire from that here in the city once fire crews get spread too thin. -

April 2026 Weather In The PNW
GFS would be pretty sweet. Won't happen of course but at least we aren't staring at two straight weeks of rain and cold.- 1
