  1. How so??? SST comparisons October 24th, 1997 vs Current... http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/sst/anomaly/1997/anomnight.10.24.1997.gif http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/sst/anomaly/2015/anomnight.10.22.2015.gif In 1997, ENSO 1.2 Region was torching and main warmth much farther East. On top of that, it had a lot more colder waters in the N PAC. Lastly, the overall warmth in the equatorial Pacific was higher back in 1997. Look at those anamolies...of the charts. Stark differences TBH.

  2. Well said tom, I can't believe the difference. There are two key points that says we are about to experience something we never had before. One, all El Niños are different....and two there just isn't enough data to compare. I'm excited to see how things play out.

  5. Everybody should check out this site if you are interested in finding some fantastic data. You can look up snowfall totals for each month going all the way back to the late 1800's. It also allows you to see which days the snowstorms occurred on and how much snow fell. http://xmacis.rcc-acis.org/#

  6. Yeah. I laugh every time I hear those 2 years used as climo for what this winter will be like. Nothing has been similar pretty much anywhere since August but they can beat the dead horse all they want and keep posting the standard nino temperature maps for this winter. Lol. I'll be laughing when they're wrong.

  7. 00z Euro is painting a couple inches of snow near Hayward and places near by. Prob a bit overdone, but it does fall overnight which could be possible. You may get some wrap around snow showers in your area.

  8. The usual thing that is happening now is that autumns preceding strong El Niño winters heavily favor colder than normal autumns. Which hasn't been the case so far this autumn. We're in uncharted territory with regards to the El Niño and the warmer than normal eastern North Pacific. Hoosier on Amwx weather did a little digging and only found 2 seasons that somewhat resemble the conditions going on now and both of them ended up colder than normal winters for a big part of the country. http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/46551-winter-2015-16-discussion/?p=3729450 Throw in the fact were really low with solar activity and we're really looking at a unknown for this winter.
