I lived in the Rockies as a teen. The occasional spring and fall snowstorms that hit when trees were fully leaved often caused a LOT of damage and disruption. The consolation prize is the snow would melt really fast. An 8" dump could vanish in a day.
And since the discussion was focused on April/May becoming "summer" months, the difference between them and July/August is even more striking if you look at the past 5 years or the past 15.
