Anywhere I’ve been in the PNW never really had a horrible experience with mosquitos until a couple years ago up at walupt lake near Mt.Adams. Lots of lakes and deep wilderness out there.
A few mosquitos don’t bother me much…but holy hell it was bad there in mid July. Middle of the day trying to set up camp and I put on sweatpants and a sweatshirt plus deep woods off spray and they were swarming my ankles and face. We packed up and left after an hour it was so bad. I wouldn’t want to live somewhere that it was that bad.
Visited Washington DC.. Absolute nightmare. 95 degrees and blasting sun. Limited shade. Ruined the trip because I had to spend more time fanning myself seeking shade than enjoying the monuments. At night, swarmed with an insane number of bugs. Also the streets stink there.
It sounds crazy... but the primary reason my wife wouldn't move back to MN is the mosquitos. They just attack her there and here she can sit outside all evening and never be bothered. The literally swarm in MN on calm, humid nights.
