Truth to this. Being a CWO at DSM we interact with the NWS techs. Not only lack of funds- but ASOS is basically 1980's technology and they are running out of parts when stuff breaks. Hence the reason to transfer 200+ ASOS's to even less reliable AWOS in the near future.

Dont think for a minute that the asos gages in iowa are accurate! OTM IS KNOWN BY ALL TO BE DEAD WRONG. NWS says theres no funds to calibrate it! Im 5 miles away a coop observer I have 23" precip in 2026 and OTM has 13".
