With all the talk of heat and dry summers, it doesn’t get mentioned much that climate models show that both spring and fall are expected to get wetter in the PNW as the planet warms. I have no idea how much of what we’ve been seeing recently is attributable to climate change (if any), but it’s not out of line with what was modeled to expect more rainfall this time of year moving forward.
Probably... but total rain is not really the discussion point. Its about the variability of the pattern. The recent long stretch of gloomy weather up here is the basis for people's perception. Not the total amount of rain that fell. Technically June might end up wet here with all the rain the first few days but still seem like a generally sunny month. Or maybe the second half of June will be back to persistently gloomy.
Just checked... the Cedar Lake station near me had 8.17 inches of rain in May which is well above the normal of around 6.5 inches.
