I lived in the Rockies as a teen. The occasional spring and fall snowstorms that hit when trees were fully leaved often caused a LOT of damage and disruption. The consolation prize is the snow would melt really fast (particularly in springtime, sun angles are comparable to August now). An 8" dump could vanish in a day.
And since the discussion was focused on April/May becoming "summer" months, the difference between them and July/August is even more striking if you look at the past 5 years or the past 15.
