I was looking through some historical PDX data the other day and you know what might be the most shocking thing about our 1950s climo?
How insanely windy it was.
Tons of 1950s representation. 1951 had a 70mph gust in January, a 70 in November, and a 68 in December. Basically imagine three near-Hanukkah Eve level events in one year. Also worth noting 1957's 73 in April (!!!) and 72 in December.
Obviously nothing comes even remotely close to Columbus Day. Really a June 2021-level black swan event, can't imagine something like it happens more than once every few centuries.
