Interestingly... 1993 actually ended up fairly average overall in the sunshine department. July was the cloudiest on record at PDX with the sun out a ridiculously minuscule 34% of the time (this is the same as a typical February!) However, 1993 had a very sunny February and a rainy season that basically didn't begin until Thanksgiving, which in total actually ended up making up for it. Keep in mind the average I'm talking about here is based on pre-1995 data, though.
That’s wild stuff for KGEG to run such an anomaly. Seems incomprehensible today. If it weren’t for the brief torch in early August, we’d be talking about 1993 the same we talk about some of the really old skool mid-50s summers. It used to be we were right on the maritime vs. medittrranean climate line so summers could go either way. But climate has shifted us firmly into the Mediterranean camp and it doesn’t even take much of a shift since we were so borderline. You know have to go north to at least mid VI if not Port Hardy to get into the true temperate summer zone.
