January 4-6 Widespread Winter Storm Potential
Interesting test for AI models. All others pretty much locked in with the 12z guidance, but 6z AIFS much further south with the low and accordingly the snow. I'd probably even end up with a few inches with that whereas the others I'd have little chance. -

January 4-6 Widespread Winter Storm Potential
I'd have to dig into this more to see why, but the GFS does something interesting in the northern IL area between 78 and 81 hours. Snow at 78 hours, and then poof at 81 hours. My guess would be that it's a dry air issue on the model. Looks kinda weird though.
