This next warmer/drier interlude, while long in duration, doesn't seem to feature any real extreme, record-breaking heat, which is a huge win for a long duration warm spell in 2026. After overperforming to 0.7" with this morning's delayed-but-not-denied rainstorm, I'm hopeful we can make it to early May without brown lawns. In fact, the sunny mild weather should be good for our deciduous leaf-out, which is lagging behind our blueberries and cold season grass.
All that is good for only a couple weeks of lushness though, if we don't resume regular intervals of rain come early May. I'm hopeful that we do finish out Spring on a wet note, though I think that when Summer does come July 5th, or whenever that saying is, the burner is gonna get turnt up to high.
Would be interesting to see May come in cooler than April in Chicago. I would definitely bet against that though as it appears it has only happened one time -- 1915.
May does not look like a warm month to me. Could even have a shot to end up cooler than average.
