Since 1905 30 day has only hit -30 twice. 4x since 1876.
In real time the SOI is doing something it hasn't done since 97-98. Will be interesting to see what the differences are going into the Fall and Winter. We are in a strong pattern (some call it -PDO), that has not been easy at all to break
I competed in a triathlon in ‘15 with similar conditions in n Kelowna. The day before was fair weather in the upper 80s. Not a hint of smoke. It was the summer weather that makes the place a tourist trap. Wind shifted to south overnight and a plume from a fire in WA descended upon the Okanagan valley. Not a hint of fog in these photos—all smoke. When we drove over the Connector that afternoon to get back to the coast at 4,000ft elevation, the smoke was still there but about a quarter of what it was. It was a beautiful sunny day up there. I was hoarse for a couple days besides smelling like a campfire.
