I agree with the bolded but tbf, Mexico City and Guadalajara which he listed are much more "authentic Mexico" than your standard, curated touristy resort destinations are. But yeah my pretentious soapbox of the day is that I just never got why someone would travel to any foreign country just to lay around some stuffy resort, and then not immerse themselves in the country's culture or landscape at all beyond those narrow boundaries.

The fact that we are even having this conversation immediately invalidates your entire argument tbh.Absolutely not worth the risk to go to Mexico. I will never understand why people still go there if all they are going to do is sit inside their all inclusive resort. You can do the exact same thing in Hawaii or the Caribbean with none of the risk.
