When it comes to cool season grasses like those in the PNW, rainfall is mostly irrelevant, they will go dormant in the summer when soil temperatures reach a certain threshold. Most warm season grasses cannot grow in the PNW, so you’re left with no summer green up and that annual brown out instead.

Yeah, once the grass starts to brown out it’s very hard to bring it back until late August or so. I’m sure with me watering every other day my backyard will start to dry out in a couple weeks.
