Has something to do with orographic lift over the terrain. I’ve seen it happen here too, but I admittedly don’t understand the details of how it works.

Anybody know what’s happening here? I see this a lot when looking at the regional satellite. It’s like the cloud formations are forming along the eastern slopes of the cascades and swiftly moving east. Looking out my bedroom window, I can see the beginning of the formation looking west in Cashmere.
