I just got home. 00z runs sure were ummm, inspiring. Yeah. I would much rather have a strong ridge and then retrogression instead of a return to wet weather with the pattern resetting. Who knows how long it might take to shut down the pacific and develop an Alaskan ridge at ~150-160 W.

The alternative to fake cold during inversion season is mild warm front drizzle, which is just as gloomy and screws up the snowpack even more. Warm + sunny isn't really a thing in the lowlands from late November to late January.
If a ridge has to set up, I'd much rather at least get the colder temps and drier air. Having it appreciably cool off and feel like winter. Fake cold regimes correspond with offshore flow developing near the gaps as well, which can clear things out in outflow prone areas.
