IMO winter won't be cancelled till around the third week of Feb. Us PNWer's waiting for a snow event are akin to a schoolboy dating a Catholic girl. You just have to wait and hope it's worth it.

Wednesday's storm actually looks really violent in terms of the energy release expected to take place over the region. That surface low decouples and strengthens as it blasts over the PNW and exits into Alberta supercharged by the advancing jet. Some highlights I'm seeing: -Unusually sharp frontal transition. Extraordinary profile change, from the heart of the warm sector, to fully mixed cold core convection within an hour or two. Thicknesses fall by more than two dozen decameters. The above GIF is a *six hour* comparison -Insane blizzard conditions in the mountains down to and even below pass level. I'd expect some kind of Blizzard Watch/Warning for the Olympics and the Cascades. Heavy snow rates should allow for 1-4 feet of snow in 24 hours, depending on elevation. This is what the mountains need. -Sharp squall line along the surface frontal boundary. Better shear looks to exist ahead of the boundary to the south over PDX, so the risk is probably lower for SEA, but the sudden temp change will be sharpest over WA.
