So localized. We have spent many summer evenings on my parents deck over the last 20 years up there very close to your house and I can't ever remember being bothered by mosquitoes. A retention pond is definitely less than ideal.
I was just reading a post on a community facebook post about ticks already being really bad up here, but its interesting, there are certain areas that have tons and other areas that have none. Apparently the Chuckanuts are one of the really bad areas.
And I hear you on the tick born diseases. I've met/known a few people over the years that had Lyme disease, and that Alpha-gal syndrome has me completely freaked the f*ck out. I have Arfid (Avoidant/Restrictive Food intake disorder), and my extremely limited diet consists primarily of meat and dairy. I don't eat fruits or veggies (except corn and potatoes). So far, from what I've read there has only been one case of tick borne Alpha-gal syndrome in Washington State.
Some chuckle-head in the comments of that FB post is convinced big pharma is out there dropping off big crates filled with ticks
As for mosquitos, I share my back property line with a stormwater retention pond, so we are pretty much f*cked....I may or may not chuck pellets that kill mosquito larvae into the pond.
So I have to stand under a tree to enjoy being outside. Bizarre. Deforestation eliminated a lot of trees. Cookie cutter cardboard house neighborhoods. Luckily I have pretty well shaded trails nearby... But still nice if it's colder.
When kids at practice or a game, you have to stay in the sunshine. Not fun. I don't think any of them like playing while roasting in the sun, but who knows.
