Yeah, agreed and for the most part, the Bureau station records are what people see and use for city records that go back that far.
No doubt UHI existed for downtown areas back then. It just wasn't nearly as widespread and prominent as now, since obviously we have way more people in most areas, more buildings, more concrete, more pavement. And a lot of airports that were built away from downtown areas have seen urban creep and land use changes around them over time.
I mean one tornado or one smoky summer is really meaningless. If it happens repeatedly with increasing frequency then there could be a discussion on the topic.
Per the RAOB archive, the record 500 mb height for the Minneapolis area (MPX now, and STC prior) is 598 dm, which has happened on a few dates, most recently 8/22/2023.
Do you know of any model website that shows the max value at a given forecast hour? I used to see that on one of the model sites but I can't remember which one.
