We should bring our predictions for winter weather to Kalshi for shits and giggles. Polymarket is still not open to US residents. Kalshi is even open to WA residents which is odd. Guess the distinction between betting and predictions markets is crucial.
As I've gotten older, I've begun to care less and less about heat and more about the dynamics of summer, such as interesting troughs and weather systems that bring strong fronts and thunderstorms, rather than the lack thereof. I also dislike smoke and brown grass. Pretty much all that coincides with a general summer troughing regime, though paradoxically I do appreciate hot weather.
There's a part of me that wants another 1954/55/93 repeat, just to see what it's like in person. And I don't really appreciate our glaciers rapidly disappearing during my lifetime. But the real icebox summers have always been rare, and glacial retreat is just an inevitability which I've come to accept.
The ideal summer I hope for now involves a series of wet thunderstorm outbreaks and an early, dynamic beginning to fall, with consistent westerlies keeping the smoke east. 2013 was pretty damn close to that kind of a summer. Though of course, all this is outside our mediterranean climo. But when has climo stopped me from wishing for, say, an arctic outbreak? lol
