Took a little ride around town to see how the cleanup is progressing, now 15 days after the derecho. There is certainly progress being made, as some streets around town have had their fallen branches and trees picked up, but other areas seemingly have yet to be touched. Makes it hard to guess how much has been hauled away in total, but I would guess over 1/3 but less than half. There is still so much more to go though. I saw several instances of large trees still laying on houses or immediately adjacent to houses. Then there are the trees that survived but are so damaged (leaners or split on the trunk) that they will need to be removed. It's really easy to spot the branches that are still on the trees but dead, because they are totally brown now. We haven't really had any significant wind here since the storm, so the first high wind may be a test for some stuff. >99% of power has been restored in northern IN, so that's great news. The governor is ordering an investigation into the utility company and their practices, so it will be interesting to see what that uncovers.

Precip is gonna be the part hard to predict this fall and winter mixed signals but it's most likely gonna be warmer than average with very few cooler than average days
