A Kona storm of this strength described in the discussions are pretty rare. This is not a yearly occurrence, or something that would discourage the Tim's of the world from vacationing there, imo. lol As for this storm..when you see a special weather statement released and mention of "large hail" added...you know they ain't play'n. POWERFUL KONA STORM TO IMPACT THE STATE THIS WEEK... A powerful kona storm will begin impacting the western end of the state today, then spread across the remainder of the smaller islands by midweek and the Big Island towards the end of the week. While flash flooding remains a major concern (see the Flood Watch for additional details), confidence is increasing that strong to severe thunderstorms may develop Wednesday into the weekend. Damaging winds will likely be the primary hazard with these storms, though large hail cannot be ruled out. In addition to the heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threat, strong and potentially damaging kona winds are possible late in the week and into the weekend.

Looks like gfs has a stronger system and shows wind convergence over Seattle leading to intense dynamic cooling. Gem has this but farther south. Looks like AIfs has this but maybe a little too far south. Also could just lead to cold rain.

I'll never understand why the GFS so often has this thin bullseye of heavy snow around Seattle when it absolutely never happens. GFS basically thinks Thursday night will be a 10 degree warmer version of 2/13/21 with heavy 34 degree snow instead of 24 degrees. I think there may be a lot of very wet mixed 35-36 degree snow in the air, but getting anything to stick in the lowlands South of maybe Whatcom will be a tall order.

Yep, I mowed that last nice sunny day. It was still very wet so I mostly flattened the long grass. I actually like to mow, it's relaxing.
