Guest happ
This cool air mass really helps keep snow melt in check as well as providing another couple inches in high mt stations even in SoCal/ Arizona. Flooding is expected in the Central valley this spring unless deep troughs persist all summer. Marina Jurica/ Fresno sky yesterday

Anti Marine Layer
Another cool and windy day in the desert as the deep marine layer is easily visible in the Banning Pass.
Guest happ
All that relatively cool air will be replaced by 100F-plus temps in the desert this weekend. Maybe 90's here. 68/

Anti Marine Layer
Once again Palm Springs is only 73 F at 11 AM in the middle of May. It is also very windy. They are forecasting a high of about 86 F, but in order for that to happen, the marine layer has to clear out of Banning Pass.
Guest happ
Another day w/ max below 70F this month; probably the last day in the 60's for a while. 69/
Anti Marine Layer
Clouds were once again spilling over the mountains like waves today and the desert only reached upper 70s in some areas. Windiest day yet. Tomorrow looks to be warmer.
Guest happ
Nice photo of Parque Nacional Constitución de 1857 above Ensenada in Baja [80 miles from San Diego]; the forest in Hanson plain looks healthy after a very wet winter/ May. I was surprised to find out that these mountains are part of the Sierra Nevada range.#BajaCalifornia
Anti Marine Layer
Much warmer day today with little wind so far. Banning Pass is no longer fogged in and I can see the windmills much better.

Guest happ
Are you hiking there? @DiscoverBaja No. It is one of several regions not too far away and worth exploring. I did get drunk in San Felipe a long time ago en route to Canon de Guadalupe.
Guest happ
First average max [77.5°] in over a week. 78/ 55 Some more photos of Sierra de Juarez which, by the way, is not part of the Sierra Nevada Cordillera contrary to Wikipedia misinformation. Laguana Hanson is 5500'. La Rumorosa is on the other side of the mountains.
Anti Marine Layer
Felt much more like the desert here today with a high of about 92. Looks like Orange County could have higher temperatures this weekend than Palm Springs had Monday to Wednesday.
Anti Marine Layer
John Wayne Airport at 81 F is already warmer than the 80 F high at Palm Springs on Wednesday.
Guest happ
Still managed to stay below 90F and nowhere in California was really hot [95° or higher] that I could find except maybe NorCal 88/

Guest happ
That reminds me of a desert oasis about 20 miles from Palm Springs that I saw on a Huell Howser episode the other night. There are several oases and canyons w/ native fan palms near Palm Springs including some in Joshua Tree. The oases follow the San Andreas fault. Canon de Guadalupe is a spa and close to but not part of the Parque Nacional Constitución. There are palm grower associations that know of all the oases/ canyons. Mulege is another area in Baja. Warm day ahead

Dan the Weatherman
Hottest day of the year today 94/ 65It was even warm at the coast today, but not as hot as it was inland. I was in San Clemente this afternoon and it was in the upper 70's to low 80's there.

Anti Marine Layer
Marine layer cleared the beaches and then came storming back inland to John Wayne Airport. Must have had an unexpected coastal eddy spin up.

Anti Marine Layer
Eddy moved southeast and it's getting brutally hot. Around 12 pm, there was a cool breeze that was pretty strong. Now there is no breeze.
Guest happ
The marine push was short-lived but it remained slightly below the 86° reached before noon. Too bad the ULL southwest of California lacks much if any moisture. Just another 'lazy low' that tends to produce May Gray conditions minus rainfall. Anti Marine Layer
Broken Mt Wilson Observatory camera today, but my guess is that they get fogged in tonight up there and the stargazing won't be ideal. They could also be just above the marine layer and have the city lights blocked out by the clouds below for better viewing.

Anti Marine Layer
Getting some reverse clearing this morning with deep marine layer clouds reaching as far inland as the Central Valley. No rain here this morning and actually got some sunshine before it got mostly cloudy again. Looks like a few more weeks of these deep marine layer events before the Four Corners High builds in by late June or early July to bring more consistent summer-like weather. Last two Mays were pretty much consistently cool and trough-dominated while this May has been a battle between strong troughs and ridges.
