80 degrees on a day with almost no sun in mid-November is something that does not happen very often here, especially considering that by this weekend, the evenings will be darker than any day in the entire upcoming winter season.

Barrow, which has a strange new name, has 2 days left of the sun rising and setting this year.

It doesn't happen that often but lately we have been under the flow of air out of the tropics. When a deep low is circulating in the GOA, it can help advect warm air into California. I just wish the air was saturated with moisture like what happened in NorCal today.

Reservoirs are in good condition for late autumn; yesterday's storm in NorCal was very impressive. Though the front washed out before entering SoCal at least some areas picked up a little rainfall.

Even for Death Valley this noon hour temp seems too warm for mid-November. Next week may see similar warmth across SoCal

Sun will rise for the last time of the year in Utqiaġvik, Alaska (formerly Barrow). It's up from about 12:46 PM to 1:36 PM and does not fully go above the horizon. Most likely it will be cloudy there anyway, and Pt. Barrow is facing the wrong way to get a sunrise off the ocean.

Meanwhile it's very warm here, but it will be dark before we know it.

NWS is forecasting 90's by Wednesday. But these short days allow quick cool downs at dusk. December could produce some very cold temps per long range models.

Lots of sub-freezing temps this morning in the high desert & upper interior valleys while ever-persistent night winds prevented minimums even below 50F and barely below 60 in windy areas. Frazier Mt recorded a -38 dew point temp at 7AM.

It is noteworthy that the dry cold air above 2000' in upper desert was negated by offshore winds 44 miles south.

I am really hoping for a pattern change after this warm to hot spell that will lead to some real rain in Socal. We usually get rain sometime in November or December in La Nina years.

Late season heat wave. Sun is more than 20 degrees south of the equator and today's sunset is about two in a half minutes later than the earliest sunset of the year, but Winter Solstice is still a full month away.

San Diego will likely record its first dry November since 1980. Need to hope for some December deluges with periods of nice weather in between them.

Thanksgiving Eve is not an official holiday, but we have half a day of work today. To the retailers and some fanatics who are willing to kill or risk getting killed for cheap deals, Black Friday is a bigger holiday than Thanksgiving, but unfortunately they have been starting that on Thanksgiving the last few years.

Anyway, looks to be a short hot day. 20 minutes longer than Winter Solstice. At least no triple digits expected.
