wx_statman
Trump's new budget has slashed funding for the Regional Climate Centers (RCC's) by 82%. The Western Regional Climate Center, along with the other RCC's, will shut down on March 6, 2018 if the funding decision is not reversed. They have a congressional petition on their website. If you appreciate the ease of access to weather records that the WRCC provides, I encourage you to fill it out. https://dataforms.lsu.edu/wrcc Personally, I can't believe this is happening. There are 'resistance' marches planned across the nation this summer.
wx_statman
There are 'resistance' marches planned across the nation this summer. I don't want to mix in all the other anti-Trump stuff in this thread. The problem of cutting funding for the RCC's is one that all of us weather enthusiasts can relate to, regardless of what political beliefs we subscribe to. That's the point here.

It is not inappropriate to express concern for the environment. Even the annual LA Gay parade will be a resistance march this year. Elections have consequences or else we wouldn't be discussing the cuts to the regional center. https://peoplesclimate.org/
Phil
Sorry to get political, but f**k this orange menace. There's plenty of useless crap that could be cut from the budget, and this guy goes right for the science-based agencies that have defined American innovation since forever. Unbelievable. 1 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=

wx_statman
The Weather Channel already has a great archive of all of the weather data anyone would need. Why should we even care if we are going to be saving millions of dollars by cutting more government fat? I'll have to check out what the Weather Channel has. I've never really played around on their website.
Scott
I'll have to check out what the Weather Channel has. I've never really played around on their website. They have a lot of inaccurate information. The data for the major cities is good, but the information for the smaller towns suburbs is often not. The website often uses nearby weather stations, but does not tell you that . The data itself isn't necessarily inaccurate, it is just attributed to the wrong location that might be 30 miles away. Scott
Oh, that sucks. Didn't know that. Here's a local example if you want to see it. On the weather channel, if you pull up Granby and Fraser (Colorado), it will pull up the exact same weather data for either location: https://weather.com/weather/monthly/l/USCO0148:1:US https://weather.com/weather/monthly/l/USCO0165:1:US Unfortunately, the weather pulled up for either location actually matches neither location. The data actually comes from the Grand Lake 6 SSW station: http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/cgi-bin/cliMAIN.pl?co3500 Grand Lake is 30 miles from Fraser. Tells me they're only interested in the layman consumer, who might not care about such details. The WRCC is obviously geared toward the scientific community.
