The 3 inch forecast was mostly during the 1am to 7 am monday time frame

Absolutely agree. Warmer air over a not as warm ocean surface means more depth to the marine layer. It's the important weather phenom that needs a lot of study. The ocean may want to evaporate water to the atmosphere but if the water vapor is trapped within a ML,  it can't be good for rainfall on the continents.
