All you Washingtonians can score decent events from these onshore patterns. Down here in Oregon it's exceedingly rare, unless we get a massive downpour. Even just 15-20 years ago, we had many 500-1000 foot snow episodes with plenty of mixed precip lower than that. But those have largely disappeared in recent winters. 1500 feet seems about as low as we go now for anything onshore. I assume a lot of that is related to rising ocean temperatures, which also explains why the late 1800s saw such impressive snow averages for places like Portland. Colder oceans had less of a moderating effect and allowed for frequent onshore accumulating snow events.
