Today was a classic June day, the most springlike that it has felt in quite some time. The marine layer rolled in early this evening (between 8 and 9 p.m.) in typical May / June fashion.

It is nice to finally have some classic spring days with the marine layer after the ridiculously hot May we just went through. As I have said before, years that had really hot spells in April and/or May often have a very nice June that is much more springlike.

Wholeheartedly agree.  The marine layer as our natural air conditioner and based on medium-range forecasts this week may see a lot of it.

It was warmer today than yesterday, but still not uncomfortable here in Orange. The marine layer now just coming in at this time (almost 2 a.m.) as opposed to early evening the last couple of days, which likely means an earlier burnoff and warmer temperatures tomorrow.

It wasn't as warm as predicted today, with highs in Orange reaching only the low 80's and cooled down quite quickly going into the evening. The marine layer came in while it was still daylight with stronger onshore flow, as opposed to last night when it came in late at night. It appears that typical spring weather will last through the remainder of the week.

Richard was correct; there is a significant cool down across California this month.

 

Slightly cooler weather is forecast in Socal the next 2-3 of days with highs likely staying in the 70's in inland Orange County. The marine layer was beginning to come in just around sunset this evening. I think we are finally getting a fairly long stretch of typical spring weather now which started at the beginning of this month or late May. It has been perfect for outdoor activities over this last week.

 

I wonder if that Freeze Watch is for all elevations or just the highest areas.

 

Howard Sheckter of mammothweather.com earlier this month was predicting some chilly temperatures possibly near or below freezing for the Mammoth area right before Father's Day based on the forecast movement of the MJO. This is likely the same cool air mass that Richard was forecasting for this month.

It was quite breezy and cool today with very good air quality here in Orange. It actually was a bit cold last night with upper 50's late at night, as the sky remained cloud free late into the night allowing more radiational cooling to take place.

 

The forecast is for warmer weather at the end of this week and into the weekend with highs in the 80's as opposed to the mid-upper 70's that we have had lately.

It is certainly looking more like summer is going to start next week weather-wise. There is even a possibility for the first monsoonal activity of the year if the Four Corners High builds in just the right place. EDIT: The latest forecast has taken the high temperatures down just a bit for next week, but it still looks pretty warm leading up to the Fourth.

 

LONG RANGE OUTLOOK SATURDAY THROUGH NEXT TUESDAY...THE JET STREAM SHIFTS NORTH OVER THE NORTHERN PLAINS THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK...DISPLACED NORTHWARD BY AN EXPANSIVE RIDGE BUILDING OVER THE SOUTHWEST. THE RIDGE WILL BRING WARMER DAYS...A SHALLOWER MARINE LAYER AND LIGHTER MTN AND DESERT WINDS SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY. THE RIDGE BUILDS INTO A 595DM HIGH THURSDAY CENTERED OVER THE 4-CORNERS REGION. THIS PATTERN SUGGESTS A PERIOD OF HOT WEATHER NEXT WEEK WITH MAX TEMPS ABOVE 110 DEGREES IN THE LOWER DESERTS...AND HIGHS IN THE MID TO UPPER 90S IN THE INLAND EMPIRE. IF THIS 4-CORNERS HIGH MATERIALIZES IT WILL INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR SOUTHEASTERLY MONSOON FLOW TO DEVELOP.
