Anti Marine Layer
This summer has been a lot like 2010 so far. Warmer sea surface temperatures are the only difference.

Anti Marine Layer
Only 99 right now in Palm Springs. Quite impressive for 4th of July.
Anti Marine Layer
The California thread is in its summer hibernation. 6.4 earthquake this morning near Death Valley but I guess the other California members did not feel it either. Hopefully we get some monsoon activity soon.

Reg
Did not feel the earthquake this morning. I didn't feel it either, had no idea it even happened for a while. Usually I feel the ones above magnitude 6.0 but not this one. Not as warm today.
Anti Marine Layer
Another rather cool day today by Palm Springs standards. Went to the Andreas Canyon Trail this morning, which has shady areas and a creek. Temperatures still in the low 90s. That's not to to say it isn't hot out. Anti Marine Layer
Indian Canyons. This is why they call it Palm Springs. Beauty and water in middle of a desolate desert.

Reg
Pretty mild summer here so far, although we may get closer to average temps next week.
Anti Marine Layer
High clouds from the remnants of Barbara are clouding up the satellite picture and making it difficult to determine how thick the low clouds are. Back to cool, gloomy mornings again as I am not in Palm Springs anymore.
Anti Marine Layer
Got a little bit of drizzle this morning but it looks like the sun will burn through the no-sky July pretty soon.

Anti Marine Layer
Earlier arrival of low clouds tonight despite better beach clearing today than yesterday. People still doing illegal fireworks tonight in our neighborhood, which sent my dog into a barkjng frenzy. Hopefully tonight will be the last time.

Reg
That's strange as the early morning satellite image showed the Santa Ana mountains barely sticking out. It was mostly cloudy but no ground-level fog at all.
Anti Marine Layer
Deep marine layers are more likely to burn off in July than in June. That's why it's called June Gloom. It should also be a phrase limited to So Cal since the beaches north of Pt. Conception typically get the cold foggy weather all summer long. However, there's always "no-sky July" and "Fogust" for those years like 2010. That year ocean temperatures were spring-like all summer long due to a rapid transition from El Nino to La Nina. Anti Marine Layer
Some idiots once again threw illegal fireworks in middle of the night. These lowlifes are too asinine to realize it's not the 4th of July anymore.
Anti Marine Layer
Low clouds were a bit thicker this morning which should limit any warming within 10 miles from the coast. Also it looks like an easterly wave is headed towards us.

Anti Marine Layer
Should be a hot day even if the morning has to start out cool and overcast. Then again, KSAN has yet to reach 80 this summer.

Anti Marine Layer
Sea surface temperatures are slightly below average. Last year they were well above average so that even the marine layer did not cool things down.
Reg
Sea surface temperatures are slightly below average. Last year they were well above average so that even the marine layer did not cool things down. It sure was. This year has been largely cooler than most other years this decade thus far (with the only other cool years being 2010 and 2011). To-date this year, I believe only April was warmer than average, and not by a lot. Some cumulus over the mountains today but nothing significant. Had a high of 101F here. Anti Marine Layer
San Diego temperatures were exactly normal for today. No heat wave near the coast. Hottest day of the year for KSAN is 81 F on April 8, and it does not look to be surpassed any time soon.

Anti Marine Layer
The idiots who live in our neighborhood shot off even more fireworks last night right around midnight. Maybe since some places have been celebrating Christmas in July, they thought they could do New Year's in July. Anyway we need to have a policeman hide somewhere the next few nights so these idiots can be arrested for shooting off illegal fireworks, waking up people and dogs, and causing fire hazards. Also if they thought July 4th was Christmas they would have been one day too late for New Year's Day. Weatherwise it's foggy this morning.
