Anti Marine Layer
Not sure how it stayed above 70 overnight with the marine layer. Apparently our heat wave must have warmed up the sea surface temperatures again.
Anti Marine Layer
Offshore flow epic fail.
Reg
Very gray day here in the Temecula Valley, actually ran into drizzle on the 15 a couple of hours ago. Wasn't expecting that.
Anti Marine Layer
Will low clouds be into the coastal slopes again tomorrow morning, or will there be a dry Santa Ana Wind blowing? My guess is probably it will be compressed to dense fog near the beaches or only cover the coastal plain.
Anti Marine Layer
Looks like low clouds are finally starting to clear out
Anti Marine Layer
Thankfully this should be a short-lived Santa Ana wind event, if it happens.
Anti Marine Layer
The Hilo-like marine layer has finally cleared out, which happened after sunset, but humidity is still way up. Hopefully the Santa Ana winds don't get too strong as that would not be good for the smoke and fire situation.
Pn1ct0g3n
Sure enough, there’s a thin layer of fog clinging to the beaches today but you can tell the offshore influence is trying to push it away.
Pn1ct0g3n
Pacific Ocean is putting up a helluva fight though. The dry Santa Ana air mass has arrived, but so far the immediate coast has stayed cloaked in fog.
Anti Marine Layer
Smoky morning again. Guess it will continue to be like this until the flow becomes southwest or there is some MAJOR rain to put out all the fires. Still nothing compared to what they have further north.
Pn1ct0g3n
Still socked in here, no trace of an offshore flow.
Anti Marine Layer
This Santa Ana wind event was not as strong as expected, but a cutoff low is a weatherman's woe. Good thing is that fires should not explode like crazy down here like they have in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest Varying amounts of smoke in the sky today
Pn1ct0g3n
It’s pleasant here, if still quite smoky. The fog lifted and we’ve got some hazy sunshine and low-mid 70s.
Reg
Windy, lots of smoke-tainted clouds blocking out the sun periodically.

Thunder98
The smoke is even more widespread today. Right now I'm under very dense fog at the ground level, higher up it's very thick smoke. Thankfully the air quality is alright due to the smoke being higher air aloft.
Pn1ct0g3n
The fog is even thicker today than it was yesterday. Can’t even see across the street.
Reg
No fog where I'm at this morning but the sun is just barely managing to shine through a thick layer of smoke. Also the coolest morning in over a month, down to 58F.
Pn1ct0g3n
Cool morning/night here too. Dropped to 64 by late evening and the house was 73 when I woke up. Visibility is slowly improving under the fog but it’s been locked at 64F since dawn. The heatwave evidently didn’t warm up the ocean much. And once again, the transition from warmer to cooler coastal water regimes is happening further south than normal and you can see a big discrepancy in immediate coastal temps from the SD/OC County coasts to the LA County ones. Anti Marine Layer
Mostly smoky with a slight chance of falling ash. 1
Pn1ct0g3n
Manhattan Beach now clear of fog but is struggling to climb out of the 60s. Morro Bay was at a positively chilly 54F this morning. Even valleys are only in the mid 80s. All that smoke must be weakening the sun. Anti Marine Layer
There's apparently some clouds moving overhead above all the smoke now. You can see them on satellite imagery right now.
Thunder98
Only 57F right now thanks to the very thick smoke at the mid and upper levels and the marine layer.

Anti Marine Layer
Smoke starting to move east of the Cascades now in Oregon.
Pn1ct0g3n
During the Camp Fire some places had their high temps cooled as much as 10 degrees from smoke blocking the sun. I wonder how much the smoke is cooling us down here.
Anti Marine Layer
Smoke has become nearly opaque now, but highs still reached into the 80s today.

Pn1ct0g3n
Much less fog this morning. Showed up around dawn and it’s already gone, but it could come back at any time.
Anti Marine Layer
So much smoke aloft. I wonder if it will make sunsets redder around the world for the next couple of months. Probably the same effect on the atmosphere as a major volcanic eruption.
Anti Marine Layer
Looks like a more southwesterly flow is trying to clear out the smoke. Lots of it has moved into Arizona now.
Pn1ct0g3n
Less smoky today. Still kind of oddly cool across all microclimates. Next week looks to be pretty seasonal.

Anti Marine Layer
Satellite is weird. Some fires the smoke is blowing east, some it's blowing north. However much of the smoke that was over the ocean yesterday from Northern California and Oregon seems to have blown inland into Arizona.
