I totally disagree. The problem is all elections would be decided by a few states and even just 10 major cities or so. The rest of the country would be totally ignored. The Electoral College is one of the most brilliant things the Founding Father did. Also the way Congress members and Senators are apportioned in totally different ways. Brilliance!
If there’s a period I would be “worried” about in the PNW in terms of historic heat/fires it would be the second half of August into September.
A substantial +TNH/+PNA cycle is possible around that time due to the combination of intraseasonal (MJO/CCKW) and seasonal forcings/teleconnections changing at a more foundational level. Could be a top tier heatwave around that time should seasonal/subseasonal elements spatiotemporally align.
But that was always a more likely outcome this summer with heat systematically expanding further N/W across the lower-48, over time, starting from the south/east early in the summer, encompassing the entire CONUS by the end.
The popular vote will be very interesting watch. I've heard that VA is actually in play for Trump. If he wins that it seems highly unlikely he would lose the popular vote.
