For reference, this is what the EPS was showing for this general period (it's off by one day since I didn't save the map for this exact period, but doesn't change much). There's no denying the EPS has been overestimating the extent of warm anomalies in the 10+ day period.
The CDD record was broken because it was historically hot in the places that average lots of CDD in the first place (IE: it was hottest in the climates that are already the hottest).
So yeah, even if the (preliminary) lower-48 anomaly didn’t break the record, the magnitude of the heat itself was record breaking.
We’ll see what NOAA says. Right now it’s preliminary.
They banned them in Snohomish County full stop and sales will stop next year. I am hoping that we will treat the possession of them like any other explosive and get them off the streets. Fireworks have no place in a modern society.
