Textbook Cat 5 hurricane in the Gulf… this will unfortunately be a historic storm for all the wrong reasons. Prayers for Florida!

Real talk, is it even possible for a midlatitude cyclone to bottom out below 900mb? I know some of those Bering Sea beasts can dip into the nine hundred and tweens at their fiercest, but those are often headstarted by tropical cyclones anyways. As far as I'm concerned the only upward force strong enough to counteract gravity to that extent at one given location would be the idealized convection found in hurricane eyewalls. But maybe y'all know of a crazy example of a sub-900mb extratropical cyclone?

I drove down to my sister's house this morning, she is a few hundred yards inland from the intercoastal waterway and just north(east) of Charleston Harbor. My watch shows my current altitude, which at her house was....5 feet. My sister's house is build up on stilts, with the ground level being mostly closed off with lattice, and has her garage and a couple of storage closets. So that gets her living space about 10-15 feet above ground. A few miles inland where my mom's assisted living facility is located, the altitude was only 7 feet. I forget how flat the SE and south central coast are.

This would be a fun job to have!
