Indeed. 1952, 1987, and 1991 were all more similar in that those Octobers were all preceded by lengthy very dry/warm periods to one degree or another.

Portland has actually been shutout in October before. Just a trace of precipitation there in October 1895. Of course it was coming after a September that was easily the coldest on record in Portland, so it was a bit of a different dynamic back in those days.
