We’ll know soon enough but I still highly doubt it. Biden staying in is still by far the lesser of two evils, even though Trump is clearly the front runner. A swap is a clear nod to absolute political ineptitude and, of course, a clear lack of understanding when it comes to the advanced aging process. It’ll basically be tantamount to a concession of the race, unless Trump goes hog wild in the unforced error department which is very possible.
Just going through the major heatwaves at SLE since 2015:
July 30-August 1, 2015: 105, 103, 100 This doesn't include the insane heatwave of late June/early July 2015 which was bookended by 100s.
August 18-20, 2016: 102, 104, 101 (Pretty underrated heatwave IMO.)
August 1-3, 2017: 101, 107, 103 - People forget a lot of people thought all-time records could fall with this heatwave. The back end was slightly blunted by thick wildfire smoke, but SLE went from 7-29 through 8-10 with consecutive 90+ highs. It was absolutely brutal. We also had a 100+ high in June 2017 and back to back 98's in early September which would have been over 100 if not for wildfire smoke.
2018 was consistently warm, but did not hit 100 at SLE, did hit 99 on three occasions in July.
SLE hit 100 in late August, 2019, but no major heatwaves that summer.
SLE hit 100 once in July 2020 and once in August 2020, but it was not that bad of a summer overall.
June 26-28, 2021: 105, 113, 117 Nothing more needs to be said here...
August 11-12, 2021: back to back 103's.
July 25-31, 2022: 101, 103, 99,98, 101, 103, 99 (This one was absolutely brutal in terms of duration.)
August 13-16, 2023: 102, 105, 102, 104
The line of storms this evening split around me, so I only got 0.38" out of it. Models had been pointing to this for a week, but that's all I got. Ugh. Combined with the morning rain my daily total is 0.92".
