You can even see the kicker system behind it. One thing about this year's pattern to keep in mind. We've seen these 1-2 punch kinda systems, the 2nd one has often been the stronger one.
Woah buddy... That 00z Euro run was something else. Widespread 12+ inches of snow accompanied with multiple days of highs topping out in the negative teens and lows in the negative 20s. It's showing a -48 apparent temperature on 1/10 which would be the coldest temp we have experienced since moving here. That was a crazy good run for many members on here. I'm loving the renewed signs of life for the 1/5-1/7 storm. It has the potential to be a doozy.
On the more near term, the NAM is not going down without a fight on this NYE storm. It's sticking to its guns with a more appreciable 3-6 inch snowfall. Too bad it's practically the only model showing it and it's the NAM...

From the Warministas at your NWS office:
A mid-level wave across the Oklahoma Panhandle region as seen on
water vapor imagery will be our next system. This wave ejects into
the Ohio Valley driving a deepening low through the region, with the
low taking the common Detroit/Toledo track that defines significant
precipitation for the area. The good news is that thermal profiles
generally appear too warm for much in the way of snow so most if not
all of any precipitation falls as rain.
06z Euro AI...subtle shifts N & S have to be ironed out but the overall picture is for a large sized snow event...this looks to act like a PAC Hybrid clipper tapping into GOM moisture...the first of the season as we begin the New Year???
